Will AAP Join Maharashtra Assembly Election? MP Sanjay Singh Confirms Kejriwal’s Plans

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not participate in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. Instead, AAP’s leader Arvind Kejriwal will support the campaign for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh shared the update on social media platform X, saying, “In the Maharashtra elections, AAP’s National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, will campaign for the MVA candidates. AAP will not run for seats in Maharashtra.”

The MVA alliance, which includes Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under Sharad Pawar, and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), plans to divide the assembly’s 288 seats equally, with each party contesting 85 seats.

According to PTI reports, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP invited Kejriwal to campaign in Maharashtra. Additionally, he is expected to support Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for the Jharkhand assembly elections.

Election Schedule for Maharashtra and Jharkhand

Maharashtra’s 288-seat assembly election will be held on November 20. Jharkhand’s 81-seat election is scheduled for November 13 and November 20, with vote counting for both states on November 23.

Recent Electoral Performance of AAP

The AAP is part of the INDIA alliance, which includes MVA members. Previously, AAP collaborated with Congress in the Delhi and Haryana elections but did not secure a single seat. In Punjab, however, AAP ran independently.

In Jammu and Kashmir, AAP saw success, winning the Doda seat with candidate Mehraj Malik.

In the last Maharashtra assembly elections in 2019, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. The BJP had a higher count in 2014, with 122 seats, while Shiv Sena had 63, and Congress held 42 seats.
